Richard

Watching the video of Richard and the challenges that he is facing with his vision was very interesting. He had a very adaptive personality and seemed like he had made a lot of adaptions to his daily routine so that he was able to be independent. The areas that he needed the most assistance were in his leisure activities: Reading and recognizing faces.

After exploring Closing the gap, I found an article that highlights a breakthrough in adaptive reading technology for individuals with impaired vision. It's called myreader and it is a compact, transportable reading device that assist the user in reading by manipulating the size, color, and font of the print. It allows the user to be independent and read the material in less time than using a video magnifier. This would be an ideal device for Richard because it is portable, would allow him to read, and help him feel independent.
